about me:

I am a Director, Designer, and Visual Effects Supervisor with extensive experience in the film industry and related visual design mediums over many diverse projects.

Most recently I have been working as a designer for some very complex and interesting iPad / iPhone apps. Specifically these are the second screen / Blu-Ray companions to The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers films, and a very interesting NLP language app with Helloreverb. Please click the design tab above to see some of the artwork I designed for these apps.

Before this I was with Shadow Machine In Hollywood, CA as Visual Effects Supervisor on the stop-motion feature "To Hell and Back". Working in stop-motion with the responsibility for integrating traditional animation practices with digital post production and effects techniques is a role from which I gain great satisfaction. I am fortunate to have created a niche of sorts for myself in this area of specialization.

Previously I was with Obscura Digital in San Francisco directing enormous building projections. These projects are amazing in their sheer scale and incredibly fulfilling in terms of their uniqueness. Projections of such magnitude are a new film medium, and they continue my practice of focusing on things which are fresh, challenging, and full of possibilities.

I have been involved with many new mediums and applications of media, from the first 3D productions to virtual reality and procedural animation, as well as many others. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to participate in learning new technologies while applying their capabilities to interesting and cutting edge projects.

I began my career in film as an animator and have worked on many amazing projects with some of the best people and studios in the business from Pixar to Laika, Wildbrain, and Colossal pictures. Through the years I have gravitated towards cgi and visual effects work - often as a visual effects supervisor, though these projects have almost always had a strong connection to the real, the handmade, and analog processes. Such projects have been a perfect fit for my abilities and sensibilities, allowing me to stay in touch with developments in technology creating cutting edge effects, while retaining a foothold in traditional techniques. I feel incredibly fortunate to have created a niche for myself where I specialize in combining traditional craftsmanship with high tech methods.
