California Academy of Sciences: Big Bang Gala (3D Projection Mapping)

Director:

This was a real quickie for me. I was deep in production of several elements, both in and out of house, for the Coca Cola 125th Anniversary piece, when I was asked to help solve the problem of this show lacking a finale.

Basically the show consisted of slow camera moves on photographs – beautifully featuring many amazing specimens from the CAS collection. To finish the evening, I created a multi-plane jungle stretching the entire length of the tent (120′), and then with C4D, Photoshop, and After Effects, animated a bunch of exotic butterfly specimens weaving in and out of the foliage.

I was in Atlanta getting ready for the opening of the Coke show when I received a quick video showing my jungle and butterflies on the ceiling of the huge tent with all the vip’s dining below along with a text from the producer “Your piece stole the show – PERFECT!”.
